Project-Based High School Astronomy (a-g or non)

INSTRUCTOR: JAY DANE

This course is meticulously crafted to provide students with a comprehensive overview of the fundamental elements of the Universe and the laws of physics, fostering an appreciation for the significance of discovery. Throughout the course, students will engage in diverse activities such as projects, research, reading, and writing, all centered around probing profound questions. Key assignments encompass maintaining a thorough lab notebook, delivering a presentation on acquired knowledge, conducting various labs, and comprehensively understanding the solar system.

Structured into four units, the first semester covers units 1 and 2, delving into the observable night sky, the rich history of astronomy, light and energy, stars, galaxies, and nebulae. Transitioning into the second semester, units 3 and 4 are explored, encompassing topics such as The Expanding Universe, planetary science, the NASA program, dark matter, black holes, and other intriguing phenomena found in deep space.

Notably, this course adheres to the syllabus approved by Ocean Grove Charter School for a-g lab science, ensuring that students receive a high-quality and recognized educational experience.
